Blood Pressure Check-Up

Blood Pressure Check-Up

This past Monday was check-up and weigh in time at the doctor’s office.  I had some great news in that I ended up losing 14 pounds and my blood pressure dropped by twenty points to 120/80. If you look at the machine in the picture my systolic pressure was the 120 number which represents the pressure the blood was putting on the blood vessels while the heart was beating.  The number 80 on the bottom was the diastolic number which measured the pressure in my blood vessels between heartbeats or when the heart was resting.  I was really glad to hear the news.  I was able to get there by watching what I ate and by exercising on the treadmill as often as I could.  I tried the stationary bike a few times like my doctor recommended but that just got to be too boring for me after a few sessions.

I ate basically a vegetarian diet and drank lots of water along the way.  I do have to confess that I cheated along the way a little and had some dark chocolate from time to time.  I could stand to lose a few more pounds but I am very glad I have come this far in 3 months.  I feel much better than I did before and certainly don’t want to go back to feeling like I did a few months ago.

For those of you in the midst of your own exercise and lifestyle changing programs, keep going, it’s well worth the effort!
