Will Rogers was one of the best known celebrities of the 1920’s and 1930’s. Will was an actor, american cowboy and newspaper column writer. He was an Oklahoma native and was born not far from me on “Dog Iron Ranch” near Oologah, Oklahoma. Oologah is approximately thirty miles to the north of Tulsa.
Will was famous for his interesting insights and quick-witted humor about life. Take a look at these two quotes of his that really make you stop about the subject of worry.
“Worry is like paying on a debt that may never come due.”
“The worst thing that happens to you may be the best thing for you if you don’t let it get the best of you.”
If you stop and think about it, Will was right. Worry is really a waste of our time. Most of the time we worry about things that may never happen. We also worry about things that may be out of our control. Maybe that’s the problem in not having control of the outcome or being able to influence it in some way. Some people worry all the time about everything! There are those who don’t worry about anything in life. Which camp do you fall in? Worry equals unnecessary stress.
I was a consummate worrier prior to my heart attack a few years ago. I have since learned to take a somewhat milder approach to life and have refused to let the intensities of life control me. We all make up our minds to do exactly what we want to do about worrying. One of the very best things I ever did was to not take the things of life so seriously. After all aren’t we all just passing through?
